A New Place, A New Hobby: An Introduction.

Hi everyone,
As a lot of you know, I'm spending the summer in Germany. (If you don't know...surprise!) So, I'm jumping on the blog bandwagon--I hope it'll be fun, for you and for me.

First, a few details about Germany:
1) I'll be in Bonn, doing research at the university there. My project is on the immune response to Listeria monocytogenes, a really gnarly bacteria that causes food-poisoning, so I'll be growing bacteria and doing animal experimentation and all sorts of other fun things. I'm so excited!
2) I'll be gone from June 1st until August 5th, so I'll be out of contact except by internet. Skype me if you love me!
3) I'm so beyond excited about this--I've never been to Germany, and I don't speak a whit of German, except for "the ball is red", which is oh-so-helpful for daily life. So it'll be an adventure of epic proportions.
4) If I know you, I miss you already. Please skype me. Let me know if you need my skype name, and then I can call you!

Now, one thing you should know about the blog. This is, as the title says, a blog of discontinuity. Hopefully, there'll be a lot of things that will be entertaining and interesting: silly things, random things, funny things, deep things, and things that make you question my sanity. I'm going to try and put up every little, mundane detail of my life in Germany so that I can remember, and I hope I can make it entertaining.

I leave in 16 days.

Let's go.

  1. I just saw a documentary on street art yesterday, and I think you should pick up the hobby while you are abroad. This may be a broad overstatement for all of Europe, but I believe they look at graffiti as art (the term "graffiti" makes it sound illegal... I like to think of it as, if you don't get caught, you don't get into trouble...)

But I digress. I think you should come up with a clever street artist name like A-Wall or something of that nature, find a logo or style that screams you, and then go crazy!! Leave your mark all over Europe's walls (but not on good/historical walls. As a future architect, I would cringe at the thought of a building like ... YOU SHOULD TOTALLY TAG THE EIFFEL TOWER!

Right...stick with urban settings mostly - it works best with the "tagging". It will be epic. You should also document this, but blur out your face otherwise it could be evidence.

Hope you have a fantastic trip!!
